Split Rock Croft Bed and Breakfast is set in the midst of a traditional working croft in a stunning area of the north west Highlands of Scotland, near the towns of Lochinver and Clachtoll. The croft was derelict for many years, but has now been lovingly brought back to life using time honoured methods of farming and land management. Our hens, cockeral, geese, pigs, highland cows, dogs and other livestock live freely on the croft, often making daily visits to the two beaches that are within the boundaries of the croft. To see the Highland Cows and Hens all roaming free on the beach is an unusual but very rewarding site to behold! We also have a small flock of sheep but in true Highland fashion these roam the hills for most of the year, only coming onto the croft for tupping, lambing and shearing. We eat or sell all our own produce and are currently selling fresh salad leaves to our local pub/restaurant in Lochinver, The Caberfeidh which serves up fantastic food all day in the summer season. The croft sits on a peninsular of land jutting out into the north atlantic and boasts an amazing array of bird and sea life including basking sharks, whales, dolphins, porpoises, seals and otters as well as gannets, puffins and oyster catchers, to name but a few. Basking sharks are often seen cruising close to the croft in our little bay. It is a haven for wild flowers and orchids which grow in profusion around the croft and is a nature lovers dream. Photographers are very welcome and the light is quite spectacular; the sunrise and sunsets as well as occasional storms have photographers out in droves to capture the stunning vistas. The Assynt area boasts a great deal of unspoilt nature, including the beautiful Quinag mountain range, and Suilven and Canisp mountains. The surrounding lochs and rivers are teaming with wild brown trout and many are within walking distance as is sea fishing from the rocks or from the beaches. We can also offer sea angling trips or sightseeing trips in our own boat which is moored nearby. Salmon fishing can be arranged by request. Deer stalking trips, sea angling, and hiking trips can all be arranged from the B&B by request, with some of the necessary equipment supplied. Please just ask for more information.
